To prevent leaf yellowing, always fill your small ceramic watering can with tepid water to water your plants. Cold water causes a shock to the roots and promotes yellowing and leaf drop.
Most houseplants prefer to be a bit on the dry side between watering to allow oxygen around the root zone. A constantly wet houseplant gets too little oxygen and can die from too much love!
Don’t water your houseplants on a particular schedule. For the healthiest plants, poke a finger in the potting soil. If the soil is dry about an inch down, it’s time to water again.
Tap water contains mineral salts that can accumulate on the top edges of your planters and pots. To prevent these salts from building up, occasionally take your houseplants to the sink, water them deep and thoroughly, (called flushing) let them drain, and return them to their growing places.
While you’re at it, wash the leaves. Houseplants can’t exchange gases if the leaves are covered in dust.
